Walmart overnight code of conduct
If you've parked at a Walmart overnight, you know that there are some RVers whose actions could result in Walmart not continuing to welcome over-nighters. Practice these simple, common courtesy actions and Walmart will continue the courtesy.
Ask permission first. Park in the back part of the lot. DO NOT put your barbecue, slides, campground carpet, potted plants, or barbecue out. Pick up all trash from around your rig, even if you didn't put it there.
Stay only one night--two at the most if necessary. Shop there for your needs. Do not dump any gray water in the lot. Remember that your actions could determine how the next RVer is treated.

(1) Ask permission. YES, even if there are already other RVs in the lot. They may not have asked, and you may all get booted out at 3 AM or wake up to an expensive parking citation.(It has happened.)
ReplyDelete(2) Park in the back of the lot. MAYBE. That's where most stores ask you to park, but park where they tell you to park when they give you permission to park.
(3) BBQ, carpet, plants, lawn furniture, awnings. NO. Don't use them. If you want to set up a campsite, go to a campground.
(4) Pick up trash. YES.
(5) One or two nights. MAYBE. Most Walmarts and other retailers who will give permission for you to park will specify one night only. Stay a second night only with good reason and with specific permission to do so.
(6) Shop there. YES. Purchase anything you'll be needing.
(7) Gray Water. CORRECT. Don't dump anything in the lot or in the storm sewers.
(8) Your actions affect other RVers. ABSOLUTELY! Again and again I've had Walmart managers tell me that they stopped letting RVs park overnight because a few RVers abused the privilege and caused problems. Be the kind of "good neighbor" that the store will want to invite back again.

Many RV organizations subscribe to and encourage following these guidelines for overnight parking at WalMart:
ReplyDelete1. Obtain permission from a qualified individual.
2. Park out of the way.
3. No awnings, chairs, or barbecue grill.
4. Avoid using slide-outs if at all possible.
5. Do not use your leveling jacks on asphalt.
6. Limit your stay - one night maximum!
7. Purchase gas, food, or supplies as a form of thank -you when feasible.
8. Always leave an area cleaner than you found it.
9. Practice safety precautions.
