In many parts of the country, notably Texas, drought conditions and dry winds have dried out grasses and shrubs creating a severe danger of wildfires. These wildfires can not only move fast through forested terrain, but can also blow throat-burning smoke over vast areas of recreation land, including forest service campgrounds. Before you head too far into a forest this summer, check the Forest Service's fire information pages of their website for the latest news and reports on all the national forests and the status of all existing fires.
