Many RV resorts in the Southwestern deserts fill up with RVers that stay then entire winter, with seldom any room for those without reservations.
If you plan on staying in one place for the winter, make your reservations soon before all the popular resorts are full.
If, however, you plan on wandering and boondocking, there is always enough room for another rig so there is no need to lock yourself in to a restricting schedule.
The desert has so much usable open land that wherever you find yourself--outside of metropolitan areas, of course--you can always find a campsite.
