The simple truth about RV toilet paper

What kind of toilet paper should you use in your rig? Answer: Any one ply. One ply TP breaks down easily when wet and will disintegrate in your holding tank.

Two ply is more difficult and could cause problems with breaking down and by fouling sensors. Be safe--go one ply. Scott one ply is a safe bet. You don't need to buy TP that is labeled green or made especially for RVs, which will probably be more expensive.

If you are unsure, put a sheet of your TP in a glass half full of water and shake (put your hand over the top first). If it comes apart, it's OK.

  1. Frankly, we've never worried about the TP. We use the same stuff in our trailer that we use at home. Plenty of water in the tank BEFORE we start using the 'facility'. Then a thorough clean-out each and every time. Been doing this for 20+ years.

  2. Any TP that is "Septic safe" is ok in an RV. I have been using the Kirkland brand for years now.

  3. Cottonelle is a good brand. It's 0ne-ply, but feels as thick and soft as two-ply.
