Pickup bed organizer keeps "full bed" available for use

Tow your trailer with a pickup, but need to organize the truck bed? The answer may have arrived in the form of DECKED, an innovative truck bed storage system. Imagine the ability to have the full floor area of your pickup bed available for lugging whatever you might need, but having two drawers, running the full length of your truck bed, to stuff your stuff.

That's the idea behind Idaho manufacturer, DECKED's brain-child. Borrowing from a news release regarding DECKED's new baby, "The DECKED system provides full-size pickup truck storage solutions for hunters, fishermen and other outdoor enthusiasts. DECKED is a storage system that mounts to the bed of a full-sized pickup truck to provide secure, weatherproof storage for gear while retaining the functionality of the pickup truck bed."

The system fits the bottom of the truck bed, and utilizes the truck's tie-down system to keep the high-density polyethylene (100% recycled) system in place. The system is molded around a steel sub-frame that gives you a one ton load capacity. Each of the two drawers can handle up to 200 pounds of gear, and have movable dividers to keep stuff from co-mingling.

The company is setting up a network of dealerships, and will also sell direct via their web site. The gear arrives at your doorstep, ready for you and a buddy to put in. They recommend the assistant, as some of the pieces are a bit heavy. Once in the bed, things get easier and installation is said to be a snap. What about cost? DECKED systems are designed for most short-bed full-size pickups built since the late 1990s, and are specifically designed for each need. Costs for all range in the upper $900 range.

Now here's the snag: Since the drawers slide out over the top of a lowered tailgate, you may not find the system accessible when you're hitched up. But if nothing interferes with dropping the gate, you'll be able to open the drawers as far as your hitched trailer will otherwise allow. Sad to say, on our rig, the tongue jack doesn't allow us to fully drop the tailgate, or we'd be in line to try this system out on the road.
