Some forest service and other public lands primitive campgrounds have a water supply within the campground, but sometimes the faucet does not have a threaded male end, supposedly to prevent campers from hooking up.
To simplify filling your water tank from such a faucet, cut off the end of an old hose about a foot or so from the end. Attach your regular water hose to the good end of the cutoff and slip the cut part over the end of the thread-less faucet.
It’s not perfect and will leak (you can wrap an old rag around it to keep it from squirting) but will get the job done. If the water flow is low and your water tank is large slip a hose clamp on the connection and tighten. This way you can avoid standing there and holding it to keep it from coming off.

Use something called a water thief. Problem solved. Google it.
ReplyDeleteyou can purchase the hoses that hookup to dishwashers and install a water hose fitting on one end and hose clamp on the other end. I also use another set for hooking to the water connections at the dump stations so I can flush my tanks. they work great!
ReplyDeleteGood way to get a citation in a lot of campgrounds!
ReplyDeleteWe use what's called a Water Thief that we purchased from Camping World and it looks just like a cut off hose noted in the first comment. Works great. It too leaks, but I hold it tight while DH monitors the tank level.
ReplyDeleteWorks great on unmodified faucets. But, some campgrounds(such as Bryce Canyon NP)saw off the faucet body immediately below the on/off valve, leaving no surface that you could slide a hose or water thief over. I couldn't find a way to hook up to those faucets. Who knew the gov't could be so sneaky!?!
ReplyDeleteHere is a link to the Water Thief, which looks like a good manufactured result for my homemade unit. https://www.makariosrv.com/products/Water-Thief.html
