Notice to snowbirds: filter your water
No matter what your water source in the desert, whether from a campground well or a municipal water source, you will find sand and even tiny pebbles.
These will play havoc with your water system, clogging faucet aerators and filters, causing toilets to leak from a compromised seal, and leaving sediment and scale behind.
When snowbirding in the desert always use a sediment filter (photo-left) on the water hose that feeds your pressure system and fills your water tank. You will be surprised at what you find when you clean it out.
Add another, smaller faucet-mounted Britta (photo-left) or similar filter on your kitchen faucet and clean it out or change the filter regularly. It will also filter out unpleasant odors and tastes.
